The West African Examinations Council has released the results for the 2024 second series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for private candidates, with 43,923 candidates earning credit and above in at least five subjects.
Out of 65,023 candidates who sat the exam, 34,878 attained credit and above in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This marks a 9.35% improvement from previous years, where 42.16% (2022) and 44.29% (2023) achieved similar success.
The exams were conducted in both paper-and-pen and computer-based formats across 5,067 centres nationwide. Gender distribution showed a slight lead for female candidates, who made up 51.55% of the total, with 33,519 participants compared to 31,504 males.
WAEC confirmed that 95.90% of the results had been fully processed and released, while 4.10% remain pending due to submission errors. However, 2,577 candidates had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice.
Candidates affected by withheld results have been advised to seek redress through the council’s Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal.
