Four people have been killed in a renewed land dispute between Ogwor and Umuobor villages in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The conflict, centered around a piece of land called “Elueke,” escalated despite the state government’s directive declaring the area a buffer zone.
Chinasa Okorie, the coordinator of Akaeze Development Centre, described the killings as “wicked” and urged both communities to maintain peace. He confirmed that three victims were part of a group that entered the disputed land to harvest yams on Wednesday, while a woman was killed earlier on Monday.
“The government has declared it a buffer zone, so nobody is allowed to enter the land,” Okorie stressed.
Meanwhile, the Ebonyi State Police Command acknowledged only the killing of a woman on February 17. Spokesman SP Joshua Ukandu stated that security personnel had been deployed to the area and investigations were ongoing.
As tensions rise, authorities continue to call for calm, urging both villages to avoid further violence.
