The Kano State Government, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, has begun distributing relief materials to 507 households affected by the 2024 flooding.

Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu-Kibiya, officially handed over the items to beneficiaries in Kibiya and Madobi Local Government Areas.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness and response efforts.

“The Kano Government will continue to work closely with federal and state agencies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our people,” he stated.

The Director-General of NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, represented by the state Coordinator of NEMA Territorial Office, Dr. Nura Abdullahi, emphasized that the initiative was part of the Federal Government’s intervention to support flood victims.

The relief materials were approved following an assessment of the affected communities.

The distributed items included 500 bags of 25kg rice, 500 bags of 25kg maize, 45 cartons of tomato paste, 45 cartons of vegetable oil, 45 cartons of seasoning cubes, and 20 bags of iodized salt.

The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the items rather than selling them.

One of the recipients, Nura Sani, expressed gratitude for the intervention, describing it as a much-needed relief for families struggling in the aftermath of the disaster.
