The All-Progressives Congress, APC, has strongly criticized the Local Government election conducted last Saturday by the Osun State government describing it as unconstitutional and illegal.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said the election disregarded a Court of Appeal ruling that reinstated previously dismissed Local Government officials.
Morka recalled that on February 10, the Court of Appeal overturned a Federal High Court ruling from November 2022 and restored the officials to their positions until their tenure ends in October 2025. He argued that Adeleke’s decision to proceed with the election, despite the court’s judgment, violated the rule of law.
He further criticized the governor for appointing caretaker committees, stating that the move contravened Section 7(1) of the Constitution. The APC, he said, had exercised restraint and respected the court’s ruling but would not overlook Adeleke’s defiance.
Morka described the election as a waste of public funds and a potential trigger for unrest. He urged the governor to uphold the law and respect the rights of Osun residents.
Security agencies were also called upon to maintain order, while the Federal Government was urged to ensure that only legally recognized officials manage local government funds in Osun State.
