The Igbobi College Old Boys’ Association, ICOBA, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Dr. Doyin Okupe, a distinguished alumnus of the school.
Okupe, a medical doctor and seasoned politician, passed away on Friday in Lagos at the age of 72.
President of ICOBA, Mr. Femi Olubanwo, described the news as a great loss, stating that the entire Igbobi College community was saddened by his passing.
“We don’t know what happened, but he was a very well-loved member of Igbobi College. We are sad that we lost him and pray for the eternal repose of his soul,” Olubanwo said. He added that ICOBA would reach out to Okupe’s family to offer condolences.

Okupe was a prominent figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, serving as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and later as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
In 2023, he was the Director-General of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign before stepping down. Following the election, he became a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, actively engaging in political discussions.
He also served as the National Publicity Secretary of the now-defunct National Republican Convention, leaving a legacy of political engagement and public service.
ICOBA members described him as articulate, outspoken, and supportive, noting that he would be greatly missed.
