Over 500 petty traders in the Badagry area of Lagos State received N50,000 each on Saturday from the Lagos League of Champions, LLC, a non-governmental organization committed to supporting small-scale businesses.
Speaking after the empowerment, LLC Coordinator in Lagos, Mr. Akeem Adelabu, stated that the initiative, sponsored by Mr. Seyi Tinubu, is part of ongoing efforts to uplift small business owners.
“This is not our first intervention. On March 1, we provided free medical outreach to over 1,000 people in Badagry. Today, we are here again to support women running small businesses with cash grants,” he said.
He added that beyond financial assistance, a monitoring mechanism has been put in place to track how beneficiaries utilize the grants. Traders who put the funds to good use stand a chance to receive additional support in future editions.
Selection of beneficiaries was carried out fairly by LLC coordinators representing the three councils in Badagry. They visited local markets and identified petty traders such as pure water sellers, pepper sellers, and bread sellers who genuinely needed financial assistance.

Mrs. Abidemi Oketunde, a bread seller, expressed her gratitude after receiving the grant.
“I started this business with a N10,000 loan and barely made enough to feed my children. Today, Seyi Tinubu’s generosity has changed my life. I will use the money to expand my business and repay my debt,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Adedoyin Balogun, a tomato seller, described the grant as a life-changing opportunity.
“A basket of tomatoes costs N44,000, and I could only afford half. Someone who bought from me took my number and promised to assist. Today, I received N50,000! This is not about politics or connections—it’s real help for people like us,” she said.
Adelabu urged all beneficiaries to use the grants wisely, assuring them that those who do will be considered for more financial support in the future.
