The United States has expelled South Africa’s ambassador, Ebrahim Rasool deepening diplomatic tensions between Washington and Pretoria.

U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio announced the decision on Friday, stating that Rasool is no longer welcome in the country.

In a post on X, Rubio described the envoy as “a race-baiting politician who hates America and hates @POTUS,” referring to President Donald Trump.

He added that Rasool is now considered persona non grata, effectively barring him from diplomatic engagement.

The expulsion follows months of strained relations between the two nations. In February, Trump halted U.S. aid to South Africa, citing a controversial land reform law that he claims permits the seizure of white-owned farms. The move sparked backlash in Pretoria, with officials rejecting Trump’s characterization of their policies.

Tension escalated further last week when Trump extended an open invitation to South African farmers, suggesting they relocate to the U.S. His remarks reignited debates over land ownership in South Africa and fueled diplomatic friction.

Washington’s latest move signals a hard stance against Pretoria’s policies. While the South African government has yet to issue an official response, analysts predict a strong reaction, potentially impacting trade and diplomatic ties.

With this expulsion, relations between the two countries stand at a crossroads, leaving uncertainty over future engagements.
