President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the newly established Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State.
The appointment was announced on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, through a statement titled, “President Tinubu Appoints Bishop Kukah as Pro-Chancellor of Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.”
This move comes just over a month after President Tinubu issued a directive for the Federal Government to take over Nok University, Kachia, and convert it into a federal institution.
As a result, the university was renamed the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.
In addition to Bishop Kukah’s appointment, several other key officials have been named to leadership positions at the university.
Professor Qurix Barnabas has been appointed Vice Chancellor, while Sanusi Adamu will serve as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Professor Daniel Abubakar as University Librarian.

The statement emphasized that these appointments were made based on the appointees’ distinguished careers and commitment to advancing education in Nigeria.
The President urged the new leadership team to leverage their collective expertise to establish the university as a center of academic excellence and innovation, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Furthermore, Tinubu charged the appointees with laying a strong foundation for the institution as it prepares to admit its first cohort of students in September 2025.
