President Bola Tinubu has secured a major victory as the House of Representatives overwhelmingly backed his declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State. The lawmakers approved the move through a voice vote during Thursday’s plenary, despite widespread opposition from a section of the Nigerian public.

The President had on Tuesday suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months.
