Mental health challenges among young adults and employees remain a growing concern, with 44% of individuals aged 18 to 24 currently experiencing mental health conditions. This was highlighted in the latest AXA Mind Health Report, emphasizing the urgent need for improved mental well-being initiatives.

General Counsel and Human Resource Director at AXA Mansard Insurance, Omowunmi Adewusi, described the findings as a wake-up call for organizations and policymakers. She explained that the report reflects AXA’s commitment to fostering positive mental well-being and reducing stigma through holistic approaches.

The study, conducted in collaboration with IPSOS, surveyed 17,000 respondents across 16 countries, assessing the state of mental health worldwide. Results indicated that excessive social media use and financial instability were leading causes of mental distress among young adults.

Workplace mental health also emerged as a critical concern, with stressors such as excessive workload, tight deadlines, and poor work-life balance significantly impacting employees. Adewusi stressed that organizations must prioritize mental health to enhance overall well-being and productivity.

Recognizing these challenges, AXA Mansard has implemented various initiatives under its We Care Programme. Employees benefit from flexible working hours, professional counselling services, monthly health workshops, and a supportive work environment.

The company also offers extended paternity leave, menstrual leave, and caregiver leave to create a healthier work-life balance.

Adewusi urged business leaders, government agencies, and stakeholders to foster a workplace culture that prioritizes mental health. She emphasized that proactive measures are essential in ensuring individuals can reach their full potential without the burden of untreated mental health conditions.

The AXA Mind Health Report 2025 underscores the need for collaborative efforts in tackling mental health challenges. With rising cases among young adults and employees, experts recommend increased awareness, workplace reforms, and policy interventions to create a more supportive society.
