Nigeria and Germany have taken a significant step toward bolstering their defence partnership by signing a renewed Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the German Technical Advisory Group. The agreement reinforces both countries’ commitment to long-term security collaboration and developmental goals.

During the signing ceremony in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Amb. Gabriel Aduda, described the MoU as a strategic counterpart funding arrangement that reflects the strong defence ties between the two nations. He emphasised that the renewed agreement aligns with shared objectives aimed at fostering security and stability.

Aduda assured that the Nigerian government would prioritise accountability and efficiency in implementing the agreement. He stressed the importance of adhering to strict timelines and rigorous monitoring to ensure that all engagements under the MoU are executed effectively.

He further noted that all procurement aspects of the agreement would undergo thorough evaluation to guarantee value for money. This, he said, would enhance transparency and ensure that resources are utilised optimally for the benefit of both nations.

On his part, the German Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Col. Boris Bovekemp, reaffirmed Germany’s dedication to strengthening cooperation in defence, security, and capacity-building initiatives. He highlighted the importance of sustaining and expanding the partnership to address evolving security challenges.

The renewed MoU marks a crucial milestone in Nigeria-Germany defence relations, reinforcing mutual efforts to enhance security, technical cooperation, and capacity development.
