Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House on Monday for his second meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump since Trump took office in January.
This visit is expected to focus on several critical issues, including efforts to bring home the remaining Israeli hostages held in Gaza and those held in Iran.
They will also discuss the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court, ICC, against Netanyahu and the sweeping global tariffs recently announced by Trump.
The U.S. is Israel’s most important ally, but despite their close relationship, Israel was not exempt from the new tariffs imposed by Trump last week.
Starting Wednesday, Israeli imports will face an additional 17 percent duty, further complicating the economic ties between the two nations.
In Gaza, Israeli forces have resumed combat operations targeting the Palestinian extremist group Hamas. This military action comes after negotiations to extend a previous ceasefire failed.
The Israeli government is pushing to force the release of the remaining hostages held by Hamas, which remains a top priority for Netanyahu.
Netanyahu’s visit to Washington follows a trip to Hungary, where he met with government officials. Hungary, a member of the ICC, refrained from taking Netanyahu into custody despite the arrest warrant.

Instead, Hungary announced plans to withdraw from the ICC, a move that could have significant political ramifications.
Earlier this year, Netanyahu met with Trump in February, where the U.S. president offered strong support for the embattled Israeli leader amid mounting international criticism of the ongoing Gaza war.
During that meeting, Trump presented an ambitious plan for Gaza, suggesting that the U.S. take control of the war-torn region.
His proposal involved resettling Gazans to other Arab nations and transforming Gaza into a luxury destination, the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
This controversial vision was met with mixed reactions internationally, particularly given the humanitarian challenges in the region.
