Kwara State has launched the disbursement of the 2024. Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, CONMESS,to all medical doctors in the state.
This initiative aligns the salaries of medical practitioners in Kwara with federal standards, ensuring equitable compensation for their essential services and fostering an environment conducive to better healthcare outcomes for residents.
Dr. Amina El-Imam, the state’s Commissioner for Health, confirmed the payment of the consolidated salary with arrears, stating that this new structure reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the welfare of healthcare professionals.
She emphasized that the disbursement of salaries with arrears was a direct response to the need to ensure fair treatment for doctors, who provide critical healthcare services to the people of Kwara.
“The salaries have been disbursed with arrears and reflect the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of healthcare professionals in the state,” Dr. El-Imam said.
This move comes as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the state’s healthcare infrastructure and retain skilled medical personnel who are essential for providing quality healthcare services.
This decision is timely, as many states have been grappling with the challenges of retaining healthcare professionals due to the growing trend of medical personnel seeking better opportunities abroad.
The “Japa” syndrome, which refers to the mass migration of skilled workers, including doctors, has become a significant concern in many parts of Nigeria. With the payment of the adjusted CONMESS, the Kwara State Government aims to curb this trend and offer a more competitive environment for healthcare professionals.

The government has also been proactive in making investments that improve the working conditions of health professionals, recognizing that the quality of healthcare is directly linked to the welfare of those providing it.
This alignment is expected to improve the quality of healthcare services in the state, ensuring that doctors are not only well-compensated but also motivated to perform at their best.
The initiative is part of a broader series of actions by the Kwara State Government to address systemic challenges in the healthcare sector.
These efforts also include improving the availability of medical resources, enhancing the training of healthcare workers, and expanding healthcare infrastructure across the state to meet the growing demands of the population.
In addition to the salary adjustments, the state government has implemented other incentives aimed at supporting healthcare workers.
Overall, the payment of CONMESS is a clear indication of the Kwara State Government’s commitment to the welfare of its healthcare professionals and the health of its citizens.
