Edo State and the Federal Government have set up a joint committee to investigate the Uromi killings and ensure lasting peace in the area.
The Federal Government in collaboration with the Edo State Government has set up a fact-finding committee to investigate the recent killing of hunters in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, made this known on Thursday during a visit by a high-powered delegation from Kano State, led by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, at the Government House in Benin City.
Okpebholo stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deeply concerned about the killings and is personally interested in ensuring the perpetrators are brought to book. He emphasized that both the Federal and Edo State Governments are determined to ensure safety across the country.
“This incident has opened our eyes and we are ready to address many issues affecting our nation. The President is not happy with what has happened and wants a thorough investigation into this act,” he said.
He disclosed that a joint committee has been set up to uncover the remote causes of the attack and provide lasting solutions to prevent future occurrences. Okpebholo assured the delegation that their submitted report will aid the investigation process and that the public will be duly informed of the committee’s findings.

While describing Edo as a peace-loving state, he stressed that the state embraces people of all tribes and backgrounds, highlighting the strong economic ties between Edo and Kano States in the area of commerce and industry.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Kano State thanked Governor Okpebholo for his earlier visit to Kano, which he said demonstrated true leadership and empathy.
He noted that the Kano State Government had also set up a committee to identify victims and compile a detailed report of the Uromi incident.
Gwarzo stated that 16 people from five local government areas in Kano lost their lives in the incident and expressed hope that justice would be served transparently. He reiterated his confidence in the Governor’s promise to ensure fairness.
The visit also saw the presence of top government officials including the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku; as well as security chiefs from both states.
Governor Okpebholo, alongside the Kano delegation, also visited Uromi where they met with members of the Hausa community to commiserate and reinforce their commitment to peace and justice.
