A number of telecom users in Abuja have urged mobile network operators to improve service delivery following the recent increase in subscription tariffs.
The call was made on Monday during interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria, where subscribers expressed deep frustration over recurring service failures across different networks.
Despite the hike in data and call rates, many users say they experience frequent disruptions in internet access, call drops, and delays in data activation.
In a publication dated February 2024, the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida, stated that the commission would hold service providers accountable for poor service delivery.
However, users in the Federal Capital Territory say service quality has worsened, despite these regulatory assurances.
Mr. Ogah Paul, a subscriber, said he was unable to access the internet despite having enough data on his phone.
“The only thing they know is to drain data without any good service delivery. I feel like crying because of a problematic network,” he said.
Paul added that it took him nearly an entire day to download a video sent to him, and even making or receiving calls had become nearly impossible.

“I wonder if members of staff of the service providers are enjoying the service they render to us,” he said.
He criticized telecom companies for advertising services they are unable to deliver, calling the practice deceptive.
Another subscriber, Mr. Victor James, echoed similar concerns, noting that his purchased data often takes several hours to reflect.
“Sometimes it takes as much as 24 hours for data to reflect after purchase. I’m really tired of this. The network is bad,” he said.
James added that even when the data eventually reflects, using it for basic tasks like browsing or streaming remains a challenge.
In contrast, Ms. Josephine Tanko reported a positive experience, describing her network as fast and reliable.
“It will always be my best. I think it gives the best internet speed and quality,” she said.
Tanko urged other providers to improve their services to meet subscriber expectations, especially in light of the increased costs.
