A truck on Saturday fell off Pen Cinema Bridge in Agege area of Lagos State, crashing onto two commercial buses parked beneath.

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, quickly intervened, rescuing the severely injured truck driver from the wreckage.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Taofiq Adebayo.

The accident occurred on Old Abeokuta Road, involving a fully-loaded truck bearing registration number GGE 624 Y and two painted commercial Volkswagen buses.

Bakare-Oki stated that LASTMA officers swiftly extracted the driver, who sustained grievous fractures to both hands, and handed him over to officers of the Elere Police Division.

The driver was immediately transported to the General Hospital, Ile-Epo, for urgent medical care.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the truck driver lost control while navigating the Pen Cinema Bridge, causing the vehicle to fall onto the buses below.

To ensure public safety and prevent further incidents, LASTMA operatives promptly cordoned off the accident site and redirected vehicular traffic.

Bakare-Oki further noted that operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority Response Unit quickly cleared the wreckage, restoring normal traffic flow along the busy corridor.

He urged motorists, especially truck drivers, to exercise heightened caution with the onset of the rainy season, stressing the importance of adhering to road safety protocols.

Bakare-Oki also encouraged drivers to use the newly-installed speed-limiting devices designed to minimize accidents and enhance safety for all road users.

The LASTMA boss wished the injured driver a swift and complete recovery.

For emergency traffic support or to request LASTMA assistance on any Lagos road, motorists are advised to call the agency’s toll-free line at 0800 00 527 862.
