Nigeria posted a net foreign exchange, FX, inflow of $15.2 billion in the first quarter of 2025, reflecting renewed investor confidence.

The data was presented at the Nigerian Investor Forum on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in Washington DC.

Chairman of the Tinubu Stakeholders Forum, Mr. Ahmad Sajoh, described the development as a milestone that affirms the success of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.

He said the country’s FX inflows reached $28.92 billion in Q1 2025 — an 18.68 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

While FX outflows also rose, Sajoh noted that the positive net balance underscored a stronger FX liquidity position, enabling Nigeria to meet market demands with minimal Central Bank intervention.

“For us, it is yet another indication that Nigeria’s foreign exchange landscape has been transformed into a more transparent, liquid, and competitive environment under the watch of President Tinubu,” he said.

Sajoh also highlighted that the Central Bank’s direct market participation had declined significantly, now accounting for only two per cent of market turnover, compared to its previous role as the dominant supplier.

He described the shift as a bold step towards encouraging private sector participation and deepening market-led economic growth.

Building on the momentum from 2024, when Nigeria attracted $99.4 billion in total FX inflows — a 44 per cent rise from earlier years — Sajoh said the latest figures point to a promising outlook.

“With investor confidence rising, diaspora inflows expanding, and policy stability assured, we expect these positive trends to accelerate in the coming quarters,” he stated.

He stressed that the FX improvement reflected Tinubu’s commitment to macroeconomic stability, global financial engagement, and building a resilient economy for the benefit of all Nigerians.

Sajoh concluded that the international community now views Nigeria’s economy as being firmly on an upward path.
