The Edo State Government has announced the removal of three traditional rulers across Etsako East and West Local Government Areas over alleged breaches of customary and legal frameworks governing traditional institutions.

Rising from the State Executive Council meeting, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor disloced that Inusa Umoru was removed as the Aidenogie of South Ibie in Etsako West. His removal followed findings that the stool was never legally vacant when he was installed. In his place, the government reinstated Alhaji Aliyu Kelvin Danesi as the rightful holder of the title.

In a separate case, Lukman Akemokue was deposed as the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella in Etsako East. The government cited his violation of established succession laws as outlined in the Bendel State Legal Notice No. 132 of 1979, which governs traditional rulership in the region.

Also removed was Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor, the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Agenebode, Etsako East, who had earlier been suspended. His removal followed reported incidents of worsening insecurity, including repeated kidnappings and killings in his domain, which the government deemed a failure of traditional leadership responsibility.

The state government assured citizens that the lawful processes to select new traditional rulers for Okpella and Uwano Kingdoms would commence promptly.

In its closing remarks, the government called for calm among residents and pledged its commitment to preserving peace, unity, and orderly governance throughout Edo State.
