Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa may have withdrawn his son, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa from the chairmanship race for Agege Local Government following a directive from President Bola Tinubu discouraging the imposition of candidates.
President Tinubu reportedly communicated during a recent meeting with party leaders in Abuja that the All Progressives Congress must conduct fair, transparent primaries and allow all aspirants to compete on equal footing.
Tinubu emphasized that imposing unpopular candidates could threaten party unity and diminish grassroots confidence ahead of the 2025 local council elections.

Upon returning from Abuja, Speaker Obasa relayed the president’s stance to party stakeholders and called on previously sidelined aspirants to resume their campaigns and obtain nomination forms for the APC primaries scheduled for July 12, 2025.
Sources confirmed that Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa did not participate in the latest APC screening exercise held in Ikeja, further affirming his withdrawal from the race.
This development is expected to ease tensions within the local party structure and reinvigorate internal democracy in the Agege APC chapter.
