A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George, has called on President Bola Tinubu to implement the recommendations of the 2014 National Constitutional Conference.
George made this appeal as a way to honour two of Nigeria’s most revered elder statesmen, Chief Ayo Adebanjo and Chief Edwin Clark, both of whom have consistently advocated for restructuring and true federalism in Nigeria.
He said adopting the outcomes of the conference would not only strengthen Nigeria’s unity but also mark a turning point in addressing issues of marginalization and regional imbalance.
The 2014 National Conference, convened under former President Goodluck Jonathan, brought together over 490 delegates from across Nigeria’s diverse ethnic, political, and professional backgrounds to deliberate on pressing national issues. The conference produced over 600 recommendations aimed at restructuring Nigeria’s governance framework.
Bode George emphasized that implementing the report would demonstrate Tinubu’s commitment to national development beyond partisan lines.

He said, “President Tinubu has the unique opportunity to etch his name in gold by doing what is right for Nigeria’s future. The 2014 Confab report is a blueprint for stability, justice, and equitable development.”
He added that both Adebanjo and Clark had dedicated their lives to the pursuit of a more united and functional Nigeria, and it would be fitting to immortalize their efforts through meaningful action.
The PDP elder further stressed that political will is all that is needed to breathe life into the report, which covers wide-ranging reforms including resource control, devolution of powers, and state police.
As calls for restructuring continue to resonate across Nigeria, many observers view Bode George’s remarks as a timely reminder for President Tinubu to revisit a historic document that could redefine Nigeria’s future.
