The Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, has unveiled a new three-year development roadmap aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s basic education sector for enhanced effectiveness and learning outcomes.

UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Hajiya Aisha Garba, presented the plan before directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, and chief education officers from across the commission’s national, zonal, and state offices.

Garba emphasized that the plan includes strong provisions for monitoring and evaluation to ensure accountability at all levels of operation.

She added that the retreat also served to enhance leadership skills, improve departmental collaboration, and reinforce the commission’s commitment to institutional excellence.

A statement from UBEC’s Public Relations Officer, David Apeh has disclosed that the retreat focused on aligning staff with the blueprint’s implementation framework and building consensus around its strategic goals.

A critical component of the retreat was the review of UBEC’s revised organisational structure, redesigned with technical support from KPMG to increase functional efficiency.

The executive secretary called for greater collaboration within departments and with other education-related ministries, departments, and agencies.

She highlighted the need to improve internal processes and realign team structures to meet evolving educational needs across the country.

A major focus, Garba noted, is working with state governments to develop locally relevant workplans that align with national education goals.

She reaffirmed UBEC’s dedication to turning strategic insights into measurable progress that will enhance learning outcomes for every Nigerian child.
