American R&B singer Chris Brown is set to appear in a UK court on Friday, May 16, 2025, after being arrested in connection with a violent assault that allegedly occurred at a London nightclub in 2023.
The 36-year-old was arrested early Thursday at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester, following his arrival via private jet the previous afternoon.
According to the Metropolitan Police, he is being charged with grievous bodily harm with intent after reportedly attacking music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle during an altercation at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district on February 19, 2023.
Brown, who was on tour in the UK at the time of the alleged incident, has a long history of legal troubles, including a felony conviction for assaulting his then-girlfriend, pop star Rihanna, in 2009.

He remains in police custody and is expected to appear before a Manchester court at 10:00 am local time.
The arrest could jeopardize Brown’s upcoming world tour, which includes several UK dates in June and July.
Brown’s past is marked by various criminal accusations, including sexual assault, battery, and domestic violence. He was also involved in a nightclub brawl with rapper Drake’s entourage in 2012 and pleaded guilty to assaulting a fan in Washington in 2014.
UK authorities, along with international media, are closely watching the outcome of this latest case, which may further damage the artist’s already controversial public image.
