Amid international condemnation, the Israeli Defence Forces, IDF, have instructed thousands of civilians in the northern Gaza Strip to evacuate immediately as it prepares to ramp up military operations in the area under the latest phase of its ongoing war with Hamas.

The directive, issued on Thursday, affects densely populated areas including Beit Lahia, Jabalia, the Jabalia refugee camp, and the northern neighborhoods of Gaza City—zones already subjected to heavy bombardment in recent days.

IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee announced the order via a statement on X (formerly Twitter), warning residents that the military would “significantly expand its operations” in the identified zones, labeling them as “dangerous combat areas” due to militant activity.

“For your safety, evacuate immediately to the south,” Adraee said, emphasizing the increasing risks of remaining in those areas.

This latest directive comes amid international outcry and humanitarian concern as displaced civilians face repeated evacuations, many for the third or fourth time since the conflict intensified in late 2023.

Israel’s military on Saturday launched a new offensive phase—Operation Gideon’s Chariots—described by Israeli officials as a decisive effort to dismantle Hamas, recover the 58 Israeli hostages still held in Gaza, and assert full military control over the territory.

Despite mounting pressure from the international community to broker a ceasefire or negotiate a hostage release deal, Israel has remained firm on pursuing its military objectives.

According to Gaza’s health authorities, the death toll in the Palestinian territory has now climbed to 53,655 since hostilities resumed in October 2023, underscoring the devastating humanitarian toll.

Israel’s government insists that the operation is necessary for its national security and for the long-term stability of the region, though critics argue it risks further destabilization and civilian suffering.

The IDF’s call for evacuation—though framed as a protective measure—has raised concerns among aid agencies and rights groups, who argue that repeated mass displacements without guarantees of safety or humanitarian support could constitute forced relocation.

As fighting intensifies, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with infrastructure decimated, medical supplies dwindling, and access to food and water severely limited.

The international community continues to urge restraint and renewed diplomatic efforts to end the crisis, but so far, a resolution remains elusive.
