The Kano State Police Command has launched a full investigation into a violent incident that resulted in the deaths of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Rano Division and a motorcycle mechanic, Abdullahi Musa.

Police accounts recalled the chain of events began around 8:15 p.m. on May 25 in Rano Local Government Area, when officers arrested Musa for allegedly riding recklessly while under the influence of substances.

After being taken into custody, Musa reportedly became weak and was rushed to Rano General Hospital. He died the following morning while receiving treatment.

In response to Musa’s death, a mob attacked the Rano Police Division. Parts of the station were set on fire, along with two vehicles, while 10 others were vandalized.

The DPO, who sustained serious injuries during the attack, was taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he later died.

Police have arrested 27 individuals connected to the violence. The command says order has been restored in the area and security personnel are actively maintaining peace.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori visited the site of the attack and also paid a condolence visit to the Emir of Rano, Alhaji Mohammed Isah Umar.

He has ordered a transparent investigation into the immediate and underlying causes of the incident to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.

The police extended condolences to the family of the deceased DPO, describing him as a gallant officer who died in the line of duty. They also urged the public to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, assuring that justice will prevail.
