Dr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, Director-General and CEO of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has been honoured with the Outstanding Performance in Public Service Award at the 2025 African Iconic Women Recognition Award, for her exceptional leadership and contributions to Nigeria’s digital identity transformation.

Award organisers praised Dr. Coker-Odusote’s innovative leadership, noting that her efforts have elevated NIMC’s role in building a secure, efficient identity database. Her work has placed Nigeria at the forefront of identity management on the continent.

Under her leadership, the Commission has recorded a dramatic surge in National Identification Number enrollments, improved the integrity of the national identity database, and implemented a landmark 25/35% salary increment to enhance staff morale and retention.

Additional milestones include improved staff welfare, strengthened human capacity development, successful data harmonisation across agencies, and robust inter-agency collaboration using the NIN framework.

A major part of her success is linked to a five-point reform agenda aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Mandate, which has accelerated digital identity coverage and innovation nationwide.

In a statement, NIMC spokesperson Dr. Kayode Adegoke urged Nigerians to take advantage of the Commission’s NIN Authentication platform, NINAuth.

The technology allows users to control how and when their personal data is accessed, protecting them from misuse and enabling seamless engagement with government and private sector services.

“NINAuth is a secure, real-time verification solution designed to ensure efficient identity authentication,” the Commission said. “With this tool, individuals can protect their data, control access, and enjoy faster services.”

The Commission congratulated Dr. Coker-Odusote on the honour and reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that every Nigerian enjoys the full benefits of a modern, secure digital identity system.
