The Federal Government has launched the Ladela Educational Institute in Abuja, a newly accredited vocational centre under the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, aimed at equipping young Nigerians with practical, in-demand skills to foster employment and entrepreneurship.
The Executive Director of the institute, Angela Ajala, made the announcement during a press briefing on Wednesday, stating that the institution is a Technical and Vocational Education Training centre designed to support Nigerian youth, particularly those aged 18 to 35 who may lack formal education.
Ajala described the launch as a pivotal moment for Nigerian youth, emphasizing the programme’s commitment to empowering individuals with practical skills and connecting them to industry opportunities.
“Today marks a defining moment—not just for us as an institution but for every young Nigerian with the desire and determination to build something with their hands,” she said. “We are proud to be building Nigeria one skilled hand at a time.”
The fully-funded programme is tuition-free and will be facilitated by experienced industry professionals to ensure that graduates receive both technical training and real-world exposure.
According to Ajala, participants will be equipped with confidence, competence, and connections that are essential for success in today’s job market.

The institute will begin by offering five core programmes over a six-month period: Garment Making, Hospitality and Catering, Creative Digital Skills, Social Media Management, and Solar Installation and Maintenance.
To enroll, interested individuals must be between the ages of 18 and 35 and possess a valid National Identification Number. Registration is to be completed via the official NBTE portal.
Speaking at the event, Pauline Ajibili, Deputy Director at the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, underscored the value of the programme, noting that it offers a pathway to nationally recognised certifications that can enhance employability both within Nigeria and abroad.
Ajibili also announced that every trainee will receive a monthly stipend of N22,500 to assist with transportation.
Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates will be given starter packs—sets of tools and materials tailored to their area of specialization—to help them launch their own businesses or secure employment.
“This is a national initiative and it has already commenced,” she said. “The registration portal is open, and the NBTE will place trainees in centres nationwide based on their location and the availability of space.”
She encouraged Nigerian youths to seize the opportunity, stressing that acquiring a skill is now more accessible than ever.
“There is no reason for any young person not to be skilled, not to be working, and not to be in business,” Ajibili concluded.
The Federal Government hopes this initiative will significantly reduce youth unemployment and boost self-reliance across the country.
