The Federal Government on Thursday closed its case in the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in the allegations bordering on terrorism and treason.
The government’s lead counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, made the announcement following the testimony of the fifth prosecution witness (PW-5), identified only as “EEE” for security reasons.
The witness was led in evidence and cross-examined by Kanu’s lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu, before Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Awomolo stated that the prosecution was satisfied that, based on the evidence presented—including recordings of IPOB broadcasts and other exhibits, it had adequately made its case.

“After calling five witnesses in the trial, the government is satisfied with the avalanche of evidence presented. I therefore close the case,” Awomolo declared.
Following the closure, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, who is leading the defence, notified the court that the defence would file a no-case submission—a legal move to argue that the prosecution has not made a case worthy of response by the defendant.
Justice Omotosho then adjourned the matter to July 18, 2025, for the adoption of written addresses on the no-case submission.
