The 100th National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which was scheduled to hold today, Monday, June 30, 2025, has been abruptly halted after security operatives sealed off the venue and prevented the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, from convening.

The unexpected disruption unfolded at the PDP’s national secretariat in Abuja, also known as Wadata Plaza, where heavily armed police officers blocked access to the meeting premises just hours before the scheduled NEC session.

Speaking to journalists outside the sealed-off venue, former National Secretary of the PDP, Ibrahim Tsauri, expressed deep concern and frustration over the development, describing it as a direct interference in the party’s internal affairs.

“I came here for the meeting which was scheduled for 1 p.m.,” Tsauri said. “But I was informed by a police officer on duty that there was an ‘order from above’ to stop the meeting. As a result, the BoT gathering which was to take place two hours earlier has also been stopped.”

The BoT meeting was intended to serve as a precursor to the full NEC session and was expected to deliberate on sensitive issues concerning the party’s internal leadership crisis, growing factionalism, and future political direction.

However, with the police preventing BoT members from accessing the premises, the entire schedule has now been thrown into disarray.

Wadata Plaza, which typically hosts the PDP’s key national deliberations, has remained under tight security since early Monday morning. Witnesses described an unusually heavy presence of security agents around the area, including officers stationed at all entry points.

While the exact source of the directive remains unclear, the phrase “order from above” has fueled speculation that the move may have been influenced by external political interests, possibly from rival factions within or outside the PDP.

The aborted NEC meeting was widely anticipated as it was meant to mark the 100th sitting of the PDP’s highest decision-making body.

Tsauri, visibly agitated by the development, told reporters that the disruption is an affront to democratic values and party independence.

“Stopping the BoT meeting means sabotaging the NEC. If the elders of the party cannot meet freely, what then is left?” he queried.

As of press time, there had been no official statement from the Nigerian Police Force or the leadership of the PDP’s NWC.
