Man United signs Mbeumo for £65m to boost attack

Manchester United are on the verge of completing their third major signing under new manager Ruben Amorim, as the club has reportedly agreed to a £65 million deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

The transfer, reported by FootballTransfers, marks another major step in United’s summer rebuild, with an additional £6 million in performance-related add-ons also part of the agreement.

Mbeumo, 25, enjoyed a standout campaign in the 2024/25 Premier League season, where he netted 20 goals and contributed several assists despite Brentford finishing in the lower half of the table.

His performances drew widespread attention, and it’s understood that Amorim has personally identified the Cameroonian international as a key addition to his evolving attacking setup at Old Trafford.

Primarily deployed as a right winger, Mbeumo is known for his pace, intelligent movement, and composure in front of goal.

However, his ability to play across the front three positions adds much-needed versatility to Manchester United’s attacking options — especially at a time when players like Antony and Jadon Sancho have struggled to deliver consistent performances.

Sources close to the negotiations suggest that Brentford initially resisted offers for their prized forward, insisting that Mbeumo remained central to their plans.

However, Manchester United’s firm interest — coupled with the player’s reported desire to compete at a higher level and play European football — led to a breakthrough in talks.

The agreement makes Mbeumo the third high-profile arrival under Amorim, following deals for Benfica’s defensive midfielder Joao Neves and Lille’s teenage centre-back Leny Yoro.

It reflects the club’s aggressive transfer strategy this summer, aimed at returning United to the top echelon of English and European football after a lacklustre campaign last season.

Amorim, who arrived from Sporting CP in June, is believed to be reshaping the squad around a faster, more fluid style of play. Mbeumo’s directness, high work rate, and goal-scoring ability fit seamlessly into the Portuguese coach’s tactical vision.

His arrival could also relieve pressure on Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Højlund, allowing United to pose a more balanced and unpredictable attacking threat.
