The Katsina State chapter of the National League of Veteran Journalists, NALVEJ, has taken a major step to strengthen journalism standards in the state by partnering with a prominent media house, Katsina Times Media Group.
During a courtesy visit to the media group’s headquarters on Yahaya Madaki Way, the NALVEJ delegation was warmly received by the Editor-in-Chief, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad.
The meeting centered on building a mentorship framework between seasoned journalists and younger practitioners across the state.
In his remarks, Mallam Muhammad emphasized the role of integrity in media practice and urged NALVEJ to lead by example. “Integrity should be your watchword in showing the way for incoming journalism practitioners,” he said, reflecting on his own professional experiences and previous engagements with NALVEJ branches in other states.
Though the Katsina NALVEJ chapter is newly formed, Mallam Muhammad welcomed the initiative as timely and necessary. “Better late than never,” he said, assuring the league of Katsina Times’ full support.
As part of this commitment, he offered the use of the media group’s state-of-the-art broadcasting studio to the veteran journalists for training and media engagements.
NALVEJ Chairman, Mallam Badamasi Bukar Rumah, highlighted the purpose of the visit: to explore collaboration opportunities and build bridges between past and present generations of journalists.
He noted that many members of the league had previously worked with Mallam Muhammad, forming strong professional ties during their active years.

Rumah also appealed for assistance in securing a permanent office space for the league and access to modern media tools to aid in mentoring activities and continued professional development.
The meeting ended with mutual agreements to strengthen the partnership through shared projects, training sessions, and efforts to promote ethical journalism.
Both parties acknowledged the importance of experienced journalists guiding emerging professionals to ensure a strong and responsible media landscape in Katsina.
This collaboration is expected to play a key role in revitalizing journalism practice across the state, reaffirming the values of mentorship, integrity, and community-focused reporting.
