The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and former lawmakers have congratulated Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda on his emergence as the National Chairman of the party.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Yilwatda is replacing Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, a former Kano State governor, who recently stepped down from his role, citing health issues
Yilwatda, a former APC governorship candidate in Plateau, was the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation before being named the party’s substantive chairman.
Reacting, the Lagos State APC Spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, said that Yilwatda’s elevation to the party’s leadership position was well-deserved.
He applauded Yilwatda’s unwavering commitment to the party’s ideals, impressive credentials as a technocrat and public servant, and his long-standing contributions to democratic governance in Nigeria.
“As a party deeply rooted in progressive values and national development, we are confident that under Professor Yilwatda’s leadership, the APC will experience renewed unity, strategic direction, and grassroots re-engagement.
“These are crucial for consolidating the gains of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.
“Lagos APC pledges its full support to the new National Chairman and the National Working Committee as they accept the vital responsibility of steering the party toward greater internal cohesion and electoral success at all levels.

“We also commend the party’s leadership for ensuring a seamless transition and affirming the APC’s commitment to internal democracy, excellence, and accountability,” Oladejo said.
According to him, the party wishes Yilwatda a successful and impactful tenure.
“Together, we will continue to work for a stronger, more united APC and a more prosperous Nigeria,” Oladejo said.
Also, a former two-term Lagos lawmaker, Sir Jude Idimogu, who also congratulated Yilwatda’s elevation, said the party heeded the yearnings of the North Central to produce the party national chairman with his appointment.
Idimogu, who represented Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly between 2015 and 2023, said, “The peaceful process that led to the appointment of the new party chairman is noteworthy. APC is really a pace setter.
“To whom much is given much is expected. We expect that the new chairman will hit the ground running to mend all broken fences and unite the party ahead of 2027.”
Also, Mr Dipo Olorunrinu, a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly who represented Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 1, urged the new national chairman to provide needed leadership for the party “at this critical time”.
Olorunrinu said, “the new chairman cannot afford to be slack, the new leadership cannot afford to slow down. There is not time, we must be united as a party to resell the party to the people at the grassroots.
“The task ahead of the chairman is to work hard to sustain the popularity of the party and ensure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 not minding the current coalition against him.”
The former lawmaker urged that new chairman to ensure inclusiveness and maximally engage all sections of the party, especially the youth and women, for massive mobilisation for Tinubu and other APC candidates in 2027. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
