Nigerian physician Dr. Timileyin Oluseyi has become the first in a U.S. residency program to win all eight top awards—an achievement previously unmatched in the institution’s history.
The historic moment unfolded on June 1 during the program’s graduation ceremony, where Oluseyi’s exceptional performance across multiple domains stunned attendees.
The atmosphere was electric as the auditorium filled with applause, but it was what followed that left the audience in awe. In a rare and symbolic act of deep respect, both the program director and department chairman approached Oluseyi and prostrated fully in the traditional Yoruba fashion—honoring not only his record-breaking accomplishment but also his cultural heritage.
Dr. Oluseyi’s awards spanned across the most critical areas of the program, including Clinical Acumen, Research Impact, Teaching Innovation, Leadership, Mentorship, and Humanism. No other resident—regardless of race—had ever swept all the top categories before.
His peers joined in the celebration with humor and admiration, gifting him a wheelbarrow to “carry all his awards home.” The gesture, though lighthearted, captured the magnitude of his success.
