President Bola Tinubu celebrated Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Monday by conferring the Officer of the Order of the Niger, OON, national honour on players and technical crew for their triumphant victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations ,WAFCON.
In a vibrant ceremony held in Abuja, the President also gifted each of the 24 players $100,000 and a three-bedroom apartment, while the 11-member technical team received $50,000 each and similar housing rewards.
The Super Falcons clinched their 10th WAFCON title after defeating Morocco 3–2 in a thrilling final, further reinforcing their dominance in African women’s football.
Addressing the jubilant team, President Tinubu said:
“On behalf of the grateful nation, I hereby confer on the players and the 11-man technical team the national honour of OON.”
He continued:
“I hereby allocate a three-bedroom apartment to each of the players and technical crew at Renewed Hope Estate in Abuja, with cash awards of $100,000 for the players and $50,000 for the technical team.”

The players, visibly overjoyed, danced and sang, “Na our papa be this o,” a heartfelt pidgin phrase meaning “This is our father,” showing their deep appreciation for the recognition and rewards.
In a lighter moment, President Tinubu admitted that he had skipped watching the final match to keep his blood pressure in check, drawing laughter from the audience.
The event highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to celebrating its sporting heroes, with the Super Falcons’ latest triumph adding another proud chapter to their legacy as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
