A gunman opened fire at a high-rise office building on Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan on Monday, killing four people including a New York City police officer and two civilians before fatally shooting himself.
The attack, one of the deadliest in recent New York City memory, caused panic and chaos throughout the building, which houses offices of major firms such as the NFL and Blackstone. One other victim was left critically injured. Authorities identified the shooter as 27-year-old Shane Tamura of Las Vegas. His motive remains under investigation.
Amid the harrowing scenes, law enforcement officials and first responders acted swiftly to contain the shooting and provide medical aid to the wounded.

The slain NYPD officer, Didarul Islam, was a devoted father of two. His wife is currently expecting their third child. Officer Islam was widely praised for his bravery and quick response in the face of danger, ultimately saving lives at the cost of his own.
