The Kano State Government has approved the conversion of the Gaya Orphanage Home into a female drug reformatory institute as part of a series of development projects worth more than N14.8 billion across the state.
This decision was reached during the 30th meeting of the Kano State Executive Council, held on Wednesday at the Kwankwasiyya City Council Chamber.
The session, chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, focused on infrastructure, health, water supply, and rural development.
Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, announced the resolutions in a statement on Friday.
He revealed that the Ministry of Works received the largest share of the funding — N11.8 billion — which will cover not only the Gaya Orphanage conversion but also the construction of a standard transit centre in Gaya Local Government Area, the re-award of contracts for the Jaba–Gayawa Road, the dualisation of Dakata–Yadakunya (Bela) Road, and the building of Badgery Road to Yusuf Road in Nassarawa LGA.
The Ministry of Land and Physical Planning was allocated N882.9 million for security document printing and expansion projects.

In the health sector, N1.66 billion was approved for the renovation of hospitals, installation of solar systems in maternity facilities, procurement of drugs, and upgrades to primary health centres.
For water supply, N310 million was earmarked for fuel purchases to support water infrastructure, while the Ministry for Rural and Community Development received N169.6 million to rehabilitate five mini earth dams located in Madobi, Gwarzo, Garun Malam, Kibiya, and Ajingi LGAs.
Additionally, the council ratified a supplementary and amendment budget of N889.27 billion for 2025 — an increase of over N169.5 billion from the initial budget — which will be forwarded to the Kano State House of Assembly for approval.
Governor Yusuf’s administration said the projects reflect a targeted governance approach, aimed at delivering tangible benefits and improving the living standards of residents across Kano State.
