The suspects were apprehended following intelligence-led patrols around the festival grounds and nearby areas. “The presence of cultists and criminals during such an important cultural gathering not only threatens the safety of the people but also tarnishes the image of the festival,” the spokesperson said. “Our officers have worked diligently to maintain law and order, and the arrest of these suspects will serve as a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated.”
The Osun-Osogbo Festival, a UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage event, draws thousands of worshippers and tourists annually. This year, police adopted a proactive approach, working with community leaders and employing surveillance technology to monitor activities and respond quickly to threats.
Festival organizers expressed relief and appreciation for the security measures, assuring visitors that their safety remains a top priority. The suspects are currently in custody for further investigation as authorities continue their clampdown on cult-related activities in the region.
As the celebrations continue, police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious behavior to help maintain a peaceful and secure environment for all.
