Bullish stock market stands firm, gains over a billion naira

Market capitalisation increased from N92.294 trillion at the opening to N92.405 trillion

The Nigerian stock market continued on a bullish trend on Tuesday, recording a gain of N111 billion or 0.12 per cent, boosting investors’ portfolios.

The Nigerian Exchange Ltd. market capitalisation increased from N92.294 trillion at the opening to N92.405 trillion at the close of trading on Tuesday.

Similarly, the All-Share Index (ASI) advanced by 0.12 per cent or 175.12 points, closing at 146,055.89 compared to 145,880.77 recorded on Monday.
The market activity was driven by demand for equities such as AXA Mansard Insurance, Ellah Lakes, Champion Breweries, Sunu Assurance, ABC Transport and 45 other stocks.

Meanwhile, the market breadth also sustained its positive growth with 50 gainers and 29 losers.
AXA Mansard Insurance led the gainers’ chart 10 per cent, closing at N17.71, Champion Breweries followed by 10 per cent, settling at N17.38 per share.

Ellah Lakes grew by 10 per cent, finishing at N16.06 and Sunu Assurance also gained by 10 per cent, ending the session at N6.05 per share.
Also, ABC Transport rose by 10 per cent, settling at N4.95 per share.

On the flip side, Juli lost by 10 per cent, closing at N9 while Unilever Nigeria dropped by 9.97 per cent, finishing at N71.30 per share.
Custodian Investment Plc fell by 9.55 per cent, closing at N37.90 and Academy Press declined by 7.78 per cent, ending the session at N8.30 per share.

Also, May and Baker shed by 7.69 per cent, closing at N18 per share.

Meanwhile, 1.28 billion shares worth N24.25 billion were exchanged across 31,155 transactions.

This is compared to 2.12 billion shares valued at N19.39 billion that was traded across 40,435 transactions earlier recorded.
Transactions in the shares of Lasaco Assurance topped the activity chart with 107.2 million shares worth N439.2 million.

Ja Paul Gold followed with 106.89 million shares valued at 302.7 million while Sterling Nigeria traded 97.8 million shares worth N784.5 million.
AIICO Insurance sold 64.99 million shares valued at N273.4 million and Access Corporation transacted 61.09 million shares worth N1.68 billion. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
