The Speaker of Benue House of Assembly,Mr Hyacinth Dajoh has resigned from his position.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Dajoh’s resignation letter was posted on his Facebook wall on Sunday.
The lawmaker indicated that his resignation as the speaker of the 10th assembly took effect from Aug. 24.
“This is done in faith and in the best interest of the state,” he said.
Dajoh expressed appreciation to his colleagues for the opportunity given to him to serve and to be the first among equals.
He pledged to remain committed to his duties as a legislator and representative of Gboko West State Constituency.
Credible News recalls that late last week, there was a “failed attempt” to remove the Speaker.
Four lawmakers believed to be behind the move were suspended.
However, in a sudden turn of events, Mr. Dajoh reportedly resigned from his position amid an air of doubts and uncertainty.
Dajoh, who is said to be in conflict with the state governor, had yet to formally speak on his purported resignation.

But report from Makurdi said that the State House of Assembly is holding an emergency sitting to formalise acceptance of Dajoh’s resignation and to elect a new speaker.
On social media an handwritten resignation letter reportedly authored by Dajoh has appreciated his colleagues for giving him the opportunity “to be the first among equals.”
Dajoh pledged to remain committed to his duties as a legislator and representative of Gboko West State Constituency.
He was said in a report by The New Times to have uploaded the letter of resignation to his Meta timeline, which reads, “Let there be peace.”
The resignation on Sunday may be a preemptive move ahead Monday’s sitting of the House in plenary to stave off Dajoh’s removal.
