The 17- Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Katsina, is hosting the 8-Division’s 2025 Inter Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition, aimed at enhancing security.

The General Officer Commanding 8-Division, and Commander Sector two, Operation Fassan Yamma, Maj, -Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, disclosed this in Katsina on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Ajose was represented at the opening ceremony of the 5-day event, by the Commander of the 17 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Babatunde Omopariola.

He reminded the participants from Sokoto, Zamfara and Katsina, that the present security challenges in the country called for a review of their preparedness.

Ajose said: “Hence the competition is part of deliberate efforts aimed at enhancing training in the Nigerian Army which is part of the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff.

“The command was to consolidate the transformation of the Nigerian Army towards bequeathing a well-motivated and combat-ready force that can effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment”.

According to him, the annual event is organized with primary objective of testing junior leadership and inculcating good traits, organizational ability and initiative in the stipulated rank bracket of commissioned officers in the Division.

He noted that the event also focuses on enhancing combat skills, marksmanship, physical fitness, and leadership at a lower level.

“It is worthy to state that the events lined up in this competition includes weapon handling, which is to enhance troops marksmanship while obstacle crossing is to test their physical fitness.

“Additionally, other events are map reading and combat Relay Race,” he said.

Ajose further encouraged the participants to approach the competition with determination, resilience, and the spirit of sportsmanship.

According to him, let discipline, courage and integrity guide your performance, for these are the values that define the Nigerian army.

“As we begin the competition, I urge everyone to give their best while adhering to the highest standard of conduct. May this competition serve as a stepping stone for greater achievements in your military careers.” Ajose added.
