Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering youth development through sports, describing it as a vital tool for empowerment, inclusivity, and social cohesion.
The Governor, who was represented by the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Mogaji, gave the assurance at the closing ceremony of the 16th edition of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, Commissioner of Police Cup 2025.
He stressed that the government remains committed to providing equal opportunities for young athletes, adding that female participants would continue to receive adequate attention and support.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adekimi Ojo, highlighted the role of sports as a crime prevention strategy, noting that when youths are positively engaged, they are better positioned to achieve their aspirations while contributing to societal peace and stability.

Similarly, the Chairperson of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Mrs. Catherine Adekimi, emphasized the importance of creating positive role models for girls in sports, saying such representation would inspire them to make meaningful contributions to the development of society.
The Chairman of Kwara YSFON, Mallam Ademola Kiyesola, called on parents to encourage their children to embrace sports. He explained that the Commissioner of Police Cup was designed to reduce youth restiveness and curb criminal activities by channeling young talents into constructive engagements.
This year’s competition featured Under-13 Boys, Under-17 Boys, and Under-17 Girls categories, with exciting matches that showcased the future of Kwara sports.
In the Under-17 Boys final, Barca Kiddies FA triumphed over Future Stars FA 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
In the Under-17 Girls (POWA Cup), Kwara Ladies United emerged champions with a convincing 2-0 victory against Model Queens FA.
In the Under-13 Boys final, Unique FA edged Future Stars FA 3-1 on penalties after another thrilling 1-1 stalemate.
The tournament, now in its 16th year, continues to serve as a platform for discovering and nurturing young talents, while also strengthening unity and peace across the state.
