A private family issue has turned public after Tuokpe Onuwaje, ex-wife of author and former presidential aide Reno Omokri, accused him of abandoning their son.
The accusation followed a photo Omokri shared online of himself with their daughter with the caption:
“My beautiful lookalike alakowe daughter joined me in the gym today ”
In a sharp reaction, Onuwaje posted on Facebook: “Stop showing up just for photo ops—show up for real life. Our son with special needs is waiting for quality time with his dad, not just fleeting visits with his siblings. You haven’t seen or spent time with your son since June 2024! Over a year!”
She stressed that real parenting lies in “everyday moments” and not in carefully staged public appearances.
Her remarks have since triggered widespread debate across Nigerian blogs, Instagram, and forums.
Many sympathised with the challenges of raising a child with special needs, while others felt family disputes should be kept private.
On Facebook, some users expressed sharp criticism:
Anthonia Ojenagbon: “So he is a deadbeat dad and he is running his tap mouth online.”
Chibuikem Orji: “I’ve always known that Reno Omokri is a failed father and husband.”

Omojevwe Uzezi: “I didn’t expect anything different. He is a busybody checking and knowing other people’s secrets but unable to concentrate on his family.”
Reno Omokri, born in 1974 in Warri, Delta State, is a lawyer, author, and political commentator.
He studied law in Nigeria, was called to the bar in 2000, and later obtained a Master of Laws from the University of Wolverhampton in 2004.
Omokri served as Special Assistant on New Media to President Goodluck Jonathan between 2011 and 2015, using digital platforms to promote government projects and engage citizens.
Beyond politics, he has hosted a Christian teaching program, Transformations With Reno Omokri, and is known globally for spearheading the Free Leah Sharibu campaign demanding the release of the abducted Dapchi schoolgirl.
Omokri’s marriage to Tuokpe Onuwaje began with traditional and church ceremonies in June 2004.
The union produced three children but was short-lived. On August 25, 2005, the Lagos High Court dissolved the marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.
Despite the legal separation, both parties have remained in the public eye, occasionally making headlines when private matters surface online.
As of press time, Omokri has not responded to Onuwaje’s allegations. His silence has further fuelled speculation on social media, where users continue to weigh in on the role of parents in raising children with special needs.
