Nigeria’s preparation for the all-important 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers has intensified, with 13 Super Eagles players now in camp ahead of decisive fixtures against Rwanda and South Africa.

The national team’s base in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom, welcomed nine additional players on Tuesday, swelling the camp’s population to 13.

The team media officer, Promise Efoghe disclosed that the fresh arrivals include key internationals such as Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Moses Simon, Chidozie Awaziem, Adebayo Adeleye, and Benjamin Fredericks.

These players joined William Troost-Ekong, Amas Obasogie, Felix Agu, and Raphael Onyedika, who had checked in on Monday, ensuring that more than half of the 23-man squad is now present. Efoghe confirmed that 10 more players are expected by Wednesday to complete the roster.

“A total of 13 players are currently in camp, and we are expecting the rest of the squad to arrive later today and early tomorrow,” Efoghe said.

The Nigeria Football Federation has also outlined the media activities for the build-up. On Wednesday, the coaching staff alongside selected players will address journalists at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

On Friday, a pre-match press conference will be held at the same venue, with the first 15 minutes of training open to the press.

Among the players yet to arrive are first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, dependable defender Bruno Onyemaechi, midfield anchors Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka, as well as attacking stars Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Cyriel Dessers, Christantus Uche and Tolu Arokodare. Their arrival will significantly boost morale and sharpen preparations.

Nigeria faces Rwanda on Friday in Uyo before traveling to Bloemfontein to tackle South Africa on Monday. These fixtures, scheduled for Matchdays 7 and 8, are critical to the Super Eagles’ qualification hopes.

Currently, Nigeria sits third in Group C with two points from two games, behind South Africa and Rwanda, who both have four points.

Only the group winner qualifies directly for the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, while the second-placed team heads into the playoff route.

The full 23-man squad covers every department, featuring a blend of experience and emerging talent. Troost-Ekong provides leadership in defence, Ndidi anchors the midfield, while Osimhen leads the forward line.

The presence of dynamic wingers like Lookman, Simon, and Chukwueze offers attacking flair, while younger talents such as Dele-Bashiru and Fredericks add freshness.
