The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has reiterated its commitment to achieve the United Nations Decade of action on road safety.

This was disclosed by the Corp Marshal, Shehu Mohammed on Thursday, during the Annual Nigeria Hybrid Health, Safety, Security, Environment Quality and Sustainability Week in Calabar.

Represented by ACM Henry Benameisia, Zonal Commanding Officer RS6, Mohammed said to achieve this, the Corp has embarked on an innovative, technology-driven enforcement, public education, and emergency response.

The Corp Marshal who was the keynote speaker at the engagement, emphasised the importance of road safety as an integral component of national health, security, and environmental sustainability.

According to him, the event served as a platform to share knowledge, strengthen collaborations, and promote best practices in line with national and global standards.

“This event is important because it is a platform to promote awareness, compliance to health, safety, security, environment and quality standards while providing a platform for dialogue between regulators, operators, and stakeholders.

“It is also an avenue to highlight sustainable practices for national development and encourages inter-agency collaboration in achieving a safer, healthier and more secure society,” he said.

Mohammed added that the Corps’ commitment to ensuring road safety remains a central pillar in Nigeria’s pursuit of health and security.

On his part, Maj.-Gen Adekunle Aribiyi (rtd.), one of the recipient of an Honorary Distinguish Fellowship Award at the event, stated that the engagement was a robust platform that brought stakeholders from diverse sectors to share knowledge.

Aribiyi said at a time when Nigeria was striving to strengthen institutional frameworks, safeguard lives, protect the environment, and ensure sustainable development, such engagement should be continuous.

“The presence and active participation of the Corp Marshal and other stakeholders highlights the importance of collaboration in driving national safety and sustainability objectives.

“I urge every participant to translate the knowledge gained into concrete actions that will improve standards, enhance productivity, and contribute positively to national growth,” he noted.

The other Honourary Distinguish Fellowship Award was given to Prof. Ikpeme Ikpeme, Chief Medical Director of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
