The National Youth Service Corps,NYSC,has resumed the long-awaited payment of arrears to corps members, offering relief after months of uncertainty and delay.
The development has brought relief to thousands who have waited since the last payment in June.
On Wednesday, September 3, the scheme commenced fresh disbursements of arrears tied to the newly approved ₦77,000 monthly allowance.
The payment covers a backlog spanning July 2024 to March 2025, during which the adjustment in allowance had not been fully implemented.
This marks the first comprehensive settlement of arrears under the new scheme. The last disbursement, made in June, was a partial payout of ₦44,000 to ex-corps members, following the federal government’s approval of the new minimum wage.
While that eased some concerns, many serving corps members were left waiting for their full entitlement.
The latest development has triggered widespread jubilation among beneficiaries, with many taking to social media to share credit alerts and express excitement.
For corps members who have endured months of economic pressure during service, the payment has come as a morale boost.

The NYSC scheme, established to foster unity and provide graduates with work experience, relies heavily on government funding to sustain its operations.
The resumed payment of arrears signals government’s commitment to honoring financial obligations at a time when rising inflation has made survival difficult for young Nigerians.
Beyond easing the burden on corps members, analysts believe the disbursement will help restore confidence in the scheme’s credibility.
With the arrears now being cleared, corps members can focus more on their primary assignments and community development projects without the lingering worry of unpaid entitlements.
For many, the resumption of arrears payment is not just about money but also about recognition of their service to the nation. It has reassured them that the sacrifices made during their service year are valued, and that government is attentive to their welfare.
With this disbursement, the NYSC has closed a two-month gap since the last payout, and beneficiaries now look forward to steady, uninterrupted allowance payments in the coming months.
