A former lawmaker representing Osun West in the Senate, Mudashiru Hussein, has appealed to members of the All-Progressives Congress in Osun State to support his aspiration to become the governor of the state.
The ex – lawmaker and an Ejigbo man made the declaration on Tuesday, when he formally declared his interest in the APC ticket for the August 8, 2026, governorship poll, after a meeting with members of the State Working Committee and other stakeholders at the party’s state secretariat in Osogbo.
As a senator from June 2011 to May 2015, ex – lawmaker Hussein had previously represented the Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency in Lagos in the House of Representatives, Abuja, between 1999 and 2007.

Already, about twelve aspirants have shown interest in the APC governorship ticket, which may see the eventual candidate of the party facing the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is expected to run on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party.
Addressing scores of his supporters who had gathered at the APC state secretariat to witness the event, Hussein said he possessed relevant experience to govern Osun.
“In terms of experience, I swear to the Almighty God, I have what it takes to govern this state.
” As a member of the House of Representatives in Lagos State for eight years and a member of the Senate for four years, and having served as a Federal Commissioner and acting Secretary to the State Government in Osun State, what else do you want as governor? If it’s experience, I have it.
“APC is rooted in the federation and in Osun, so there’s nothing to fear. We are taking over the government of Osun State in 2026. I am confident that I am going to govern this state,” Hussein said.
He, however, expressed readiness to support whoever among the twelve aspirants is eventually picked as the candidate of the party, if he is not chosen.
He further said, “All of us, the twelve aspirants, are qualified. We have the capacity to deliver. Whoever the party hierarchy chooses, we are bound by the Constitution and rules of the party to support them.”
Also speaking, the Osun APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, expressed excitement that many aspirants are showing interest in the party’s ticket, adding that it was an indication that the party had a good chance of winning the next poll in the state.
PUNCH Online had reported that the current Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji; ex-chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Babajide Omoworare; a lawyer and son to the immediate past Olufi of Gbongan, Dotun Babayemi; the immediate past Osun Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi; the Chairman, Mutual Assurance Benefits, Akin Ogunbiyi; and a legal practitioner, Kunle Adegoke, SAN, are among those who have indicated interest in the APC ticket in the next governorship poll in the state.
