Contrary to the position of some politicians in Northern Nigeria, Rep. Abubakar Bichi, Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, says Federal Government projects are being equitably distributed across the country.

Bichi, who represents Bichi Federal Constituency of Kano State, debunked the anti-Tinubu sentiments while speaking to newsmen on Thursday in Kano.

He said the administration of President Bola Tinubu was committed to fairness and inclusiveness in the allocation of resources and execution of projects.

“Projects are not concentrated in one section of the country.

“Every region is getting its fair share, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President,” he said.

Bichi stressed that the intervention demonstrated Tinubu’s commitment to equitable development across the country, irrespective of region.

“We must give credit where it is due. The President has shown love for every part of Nigeria, and this intervention is proof that the North is not left behind,” he said.

The lawmaker added that the 10th National Assembly, through its oversight role, would continue to ensure that no part of the country was left out in terms of development.

Bichi urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of government policies, assuring that the benefits of reforms would soon translate into improved welfare and infrastructure nationwide.

On power and infrastructures in hospitals, the lawmaker said some hospitals spend not less than N200 million monthly to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, which is crucial for departments such as intensive care units, dialysis centres, theatres and radiology units.

Bichi explained that following consultations with stakeholders, he and his colleagues in the National Assembly presented the concerns to Tinubu, who approved the inclusion of the intervention in the 2025 appropriation.

“As a result, allocations are made to all federal tertiary medical institutions and universities.

“Here in Kano, AKTH will receive between 6MW and 7MW of solar power, while Bayero University Kano will also benefit with 5MW to 6MW.

“Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital will get 2MW, and Hasiya Bayero Specialist Hospital will receive 1MW, even though they are state-owned, due to the population pressure in Kano,” he said.

The lawmaker added that AKTH alone was allocated N26 billion in the 2025 budget for facilities, including an accident and emergency unit, heart surgery equipment, stroke centre, radiology complex, transplant facilities and family medicine complex.

“This is the first time in the history of the hospital that such a huge allocation has been made,” he said.

Bichi commended the Chief Medical Director of AKTH, Prof. Abdulrahman Sheshe, for his persistence in pursuing the project, as well as the Minister of Science and Technology and the Director-General of the Energy Commission for their technical support.

Bichi also appreciated his colleagues in the National Assembly for approving the intervention, noting that without their support, the initiative would not have materialized.
