The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule has urged the National Assembly to establish a special court dedicated to handling corruption cases in Nigeria.
Sule made the call on Friday during the Passing Out Parade of Detective Superintendent Cadets Course 10 and Detective Inspector Cadets Course 7 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, held at the Nigeria Police Mobile Force Training College, Akwanga, Nasarawa State.
In his remarks, Sule noted that corruption trials in the country often drag on for too long, undermining the fight against the menace.
According to him, Nigeria will not be taken seriously on the global stage until it addresses corruption decisively.

The governor commended the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, and President Bola Tinubu for their commitment to achieving a corruption-free Nigeria.
While acknowledging the challenges of tackling crime, particularly corruption, Sule praised the newly graduated detectives for demonstrating discipline, resilience, and courage, adding that their qualities signified hope for the nation’s future.
“The future of Nigeria is truly bright,” Sule said, urging the officers to dedicate themselves fully to national service.
On his part, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to eradicating corruption under his leadership.
He charged the new officers to surpass the achievements of their predecessors, stressing the huge investment Nigeria had made in their training.
“The commission has invested heavily in your training because we believe in producing officers moulded in intellect, physical agility, courage, and accountability. You are equipped as international law enforcement officers and must see yourselves in that light,” he said.
Olukoyede cautioned the Nasarawa officers against corrupt practices, warning that the Commission had put in place strict sanctions for offenders. He reminded them that integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration remained the EFCC’s guiding values.
“Integrity, for us, is more than a preachment; it is a rule of engagement. Anti-corruption officers must be above board at all times. Nigerians are rightfully expecting much from the EFCC, and we cannot afford to disappoint them,” he added.
The Commandant of the EFCC Academy, Joseph Ogwiji, disclosed that a total of 404 officers, comprising superintendents and inspector detectives, successfully completed the training.
He noted that the graduates displayed an exceptional level of discipline, describing them as the best set produced by the Academy in the last 16 years.
Nigeria’s fight against corruption has remained one of the most pressing issues in governance for decades.
Despite the establishment of institutions such as the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, corruption trials in Nigeria are often delayed for years due to technicalities, lack of special courts, and frequent adjournments.
