Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah has explained his love for the All Progressives Congress, APC, and why he ditched the party that elected him.
At a press conference in Enugu on Tuesday, Mbah said his decision followed months of reflection on how best to advance the state’s long-term economic vision.
Mbah noted that his administration’s transformative projects including infrastructure renewal, technology-driven governance, and youth employment schemes require stronger synergy with the federal ministries and agencies, which, he believes, can be achieved more easily under the APC.

“Our focus has always been on results, not politics. Joining the APC provides an opportunity to expand partnerships and access resources critical to our state’s development,” he explained.
Growing frustration with internal divisions within the PDP contributed to his decision.
The party, once dominant in Enugu, has faced leadership tussles and waning national influence since the 2023 elections.
At the press conference, Mbah reaffirmed his commitment to transparent governance and thanked the PDP for offering him the platform that brought him to office.
However, he made it clear that the future of Enugu’s growth now lies in aligning with the federal structure.
“To the PDP, I express gratitude for the support over the years. But our journey towards transformation demands broader collaboration and renewed purpose,” he added.
The governor’s defection was greeted with applause from supporters as he led them in singing the APC anthem, “On Your Mandate.”
With the governor’s move, Enugu joins a growing list of PDP-led states that have shifted allegiance to the ruling party, a development that may reshape national alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
