The Palestinian militant group Hamas has denied accusations that its fighters attacked Israeli troops in Gaza on Tuesday, reaffirming its commitment to the ongoing US-brokered ceasefire with Israel.
In a statement released Tuesday, Hamas said it had “no connection to the shooting incident in Rafah,” stressing that it remains committed to the truce agreement aimed at halting months of deadly hostilities in the enclave.
“Hamas affirms that it has no connection to the shooting incident in Rafah and affirms its commitment to the ceasefire agreement,” the group said.
Earlier, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz accused Hamas of opening fire on Israeli forces in Gaza, though he did not specify the exact location or nature of the alleged attack.

Tensions have remained high in Gaza despite the ceasefire deal brokered by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, which seeks to pave the way for humanitarian access, hostage releases, and eventual reconstruction of the war-torn strip.
International mediators have urged both sides to exercise restraint and uphold the fragile truce, warning that any escalation could derail ongoing diplomatic efforts toward a longer-term peace framework.
The latest incident comes amid growing international scrutiny of the ceasefire’s implementation, with both sides trading accusations of sporadic violations.
