The Nigerian Senate has approved Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Ude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria from Enugu State, as a Minister of the Federal Republic. The confirmation followed a rigorous screening exercise on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Thursday.
During the session, senators questioned Dr. Ude on several pressing national issues, including governance reforms, judicial independence, and Nigeria’s foreign policy response to recent remarks attributed to former U.S. President Donald Trump. Lawmakers also sought his views on how to strengthen collaboration between the federal and state governments in justice administration.
Born in 1978, Dr. Ude is a distinguished lawyer and scholar with a long record of public service. Before his nomination, he served as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State, where he introduced several reforms aimed at improving access to justice and promoting legal transparency.
Dr. Ude, who hails from Nsukka in Enugu State, is widely respected in the legal community for his advocacy on rule of law, human rights, and good governance. His nomination was part of President Bola Tinubu’s broader efforts to fill key ministerial positions and strengthen the federal cabinet with professionals and technocrats.
